Description

Common bermudagrass is a non-GMO, warm season, perennial, sod-forming grass adapted to the lower third of the US. It has excellent drought tolerance and durability and is very persistent. It is widely adapted to most soils, needing mostly to full sun. Although it prefers well drained soils, it will tolerate some occasional flooding.

Used as a turf in lawns, commercial properties, parks and athletic fields and in pastures for hay and grazing. ‘Hulled’ seed has the outer hull or “shell” removed, so that the seed will germinate quicker and more uniformly. Plant in warmer months once soil temps reach 65 degrees and there is no danger of cold weather. ‘Unhulled’ still has an outer hull or “shell” around the seed which will protect the seed until conditions are right for germination, so it can be planted anytime although it won’t germinate until conditions are optimal.

For turf applications, plant 2-3 lbs per 1,000 square feet of unhulled and 1-2 lbs per 1,000 square feet of hulled. For pasture applications, plant 8-12 lbs per acre of unhulled and 5-10 lbs per acre of hulled. For best results, spread seed on a well-prepared, firm seed bed then roll or pack it in. Seed should not be any deeper than 1/4 inch.
